The Entrepreneurs’ Society
is a campus-wide student-run organization sponsored by the

I am a junior CBA student scheduled to graduate next spring. I'm working toward a degree in finance and obtaining a related area of concentration in Latin American Studies. I was just elected as secretary of the E-Society and will continue to serve for the rest of this year, if not longer. I also work as a student employee for Katz at the Small Business Development Center and Institute for Entrepreneurial Excellence offices. My hometown is Johnstown , PA where I graduated with the class of 2004 from Richland Senior High School . In my free time, I'm usually studying, hanging out with friends, working out, and just being a regular college student! In the future I would like to work for a large financial investment firm in a region (possibly internationally) where I would be able to utilize my Spanish-speaking skills.
Mike Melnick
I am motivated and have plans to expand the club. Next year, I hope to open a store to generate revenues for more projects as well as becoming more active in the community. Combined, these activities will enable the club to increase the number of members as well as attract more reputable speakers for upcoming events.

Vice President, Salvatore Gandolfo , a Junior Finance Major and Economics Minor. I have been in the Entrepreneur's Society for almost a year now, serving as one of the Steering Committee members. The Society has grown significantly over the past year, with membership over 200. The events we've held have been a success, from the Andy Quinn (Kennywood) event to the Big Idea Competition. However, I feel there is much more we can do to solidify ourselves as one of the University's top organizations. If I were elected Vice President I would work closely with our President Joe, as well as everyone else affiliated with the Society, to improve our organization in every possible aspect (membership, professional events, community involvement, etc). Recruitment would be my first issue of business in the fall. We are losing over 100 members to graduation, and I believe it is crucial to our success that we maintain or increase our membership base. A 3-week recruiting effort (with social events and informational sessions), similar to the recruiting efforts of the greek community, would be a good way to attract new members and develop interest. Membership involvement is an area that could use much improvement. It seems that over this past year, there were not enough opportunities for everyone in our organization to be involved. I would recommend some sort of attendance policy, requiring every member to attend at least one meeting per month, not to mention our events. This gives everyone an opportunity to express their thoughts and ideas with the Steering Committee, which would help improve our activities and events. Another idea I would like to work on as Vice President would be the creation of a business within our organization. It could be anything from selling Pitt merchandise to holding poker tournaments in the Union . Having an organizational business would give us much more financial flexibility. This increase in our budget would give us much more freedom when developing programs and events for our members.
Adam Thomas, I'm a law student with academic interests in entrepreneurship, telecommunications and intellectual property law. Outside of class I enjoy rowing, scrabble, and all the cultural events Pittsburgh has to offer.
The Institute for Entrepreneurial Excellence has fostered the enterprising spirit at the
University of Pittsburgh since 1999.
The IEE has
helped Western Pennsylvania entrepreneurs to start and grow
nearly 7,000 businesses. The survival rate of IEE clients is 35%
higher than the national average. By supporting the next
generation of business leaders, the Entrepreneurs’ Society is
just one more way the IEE is leading the economic growth of the
region. |
